Executive Statement

Message from the Founder and Executive Director

Water Advancement & Innovation Nexus (WAIN) was founded with a clear purpose: to connect people, institutions, knowledge and practical action in pursuit of a water secure world. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, WAIN brings together water professionals, communities, researchers, public institutions and partners to address the challenges that prevent reliable and sustainable water services.

Our work starts with real challenges. We support the development of water projects and practical solutions for water security, WASH and resilient infrastructure. Through WaterWatch, we aim to make community concerns visible and support their referral and resolution. Through the Water Academy, we focus learning on the problems professionals face in planning, designing, constructing, operating and sustaining water services.

Lasting progress also depends on people. WAIN promotes water leadership development and creates pathways for scholarships, internships and mentorship so that emerging professionals can learn, contribute and lead. We also use arts and creative expression to help people understand the value of water and take part in protecting it.

WAIN is headquartered in Ethiopia, but our ambition is global. We are progressing with the establishment of branches in other countries to connect local expertise and international collaboration. I invite professionals, institutions, communities and partners to work with us—turning knowledge into action and advancing a water secure world for everyone.

Board Governance

Message from the Board Chair

Water security is essential to public health, opportunity and sustainable development. Addressing it requires institutions that listen to communities, work across sectors and remain accountable for the results they seek to achieve.

As Board Chair, my role is to help guide WAIN’s strategic direction and uphold sound governance. The Board will support a clear mission, responsible stewardship of resources, ethical conduct and decisions informed by evidence. We will encourage WAIN’s leadership to build credible partnerships and to report progress honestly, including the challenges and lessons that arise along the way.

WAIN is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with an ambition to connect expertise and collaboration more widely. I welcome those who share its commitment to practical, inclusive and lasting water solutions. Together, we can help build the trust and collective effort needed for a water secure world.
